Council general manager Paul Henry has said the funding provided support for an event that brought a number of visitors to town for an extended period.
“The committee was unanimous in indicating that the council should support the event to that extent,” Henry said.
“We looked for the event to continue to bring international visitors as well as state and interstate visitors to Inverell.
“Council has provided a level of support in the past, and now that level of support has been increased and council will provide it.”
Cup organiser Heinrich Haussler welcomed the funding and said it will certainly come in handy.
“It is good news because we do need funds,” Haussler said.
“There are a lot of people who need to be involved this year and need to be paid for their involvement.
“It is run during the week and people do need to take time off work.
“It can’t be all run by volunteers. It is an event that will attract between 2500 and 3000 people to the town for the whole week.
“The sheer number of people will tell you that there is a lot to be organised.”
Haussler said he had some people come forward to help and they were very important to him.
“We need people to staff the canteen, people to help us keep things together on the fields, people who open their doors so these people can see something of our region,” Haussler said.
