A local fencing contractor lost full control of the tractor he was driving towards Inverell when a three point linkage arm broke. When he tried to swerve around a guide post the arm dug into the road and flipped the tractor onto its side.
Senior Constable Heath Roberts from Inverell Highway said the driver’s partner was following the tractor in a utility and saw the accident happen.
“The tractor was all over the place and she was afraid he would be thrown beneath the tractor,” Senior Constable Roberts said.
The driver was taken to Inverell District Hospital by paramedics where he underwent x-rays, and was later released suffering lacerations and bruising.
Senior constable Roberts said it had been an unavoidable accident and no charges would be laid against the driver.
Police and paramedics attended another accident on the Gwydir Highway at 4.30am yesterday, near the Rob Roy intersection.
It was also involved a single vehicle and the driver was initially transported to Inverell hospital. He was later transferred to Armidale Hospital where he remains under police guard.
