“They pulled out because of lack of numbers, a few injuries,” Lavender said.
“But it’s still going to be a great day, because the junior game should be a good one. Uralla’s one and we’re two on the ladder so that will be one of the real great games there.”
Lavender said the Hawks under 18s was full of talent and the game promised to be a good one.
“It’s the only team the juniors haven’t beaten,” he said
“We came close over there, but we didn’t play our best footy. We’re saving it for this weekend and we’ll hopefully get a win on them.
“But they are a really slick side, we’re dominant in the forwards, but their backs are pretty handy.”
He said the first grade match would be no walkover for the Hawks either, and said the speed of the Tigers backline was something to be contended with.
It also appears the weather will play its role, with the rain predicted across the weekend bringing with it its own set of problems for the Hawks.
“As long as the weather’s on our side.
“It might be a mud track I’d say,” he said.
“Everything’s different when it rains. You play it all down their end and force the mistakes down there. You don’t want to be carting the ball out from your line and coughing it up. It just invites them in.”
Lavender said their ladies day would also be something special for the club. It was well supported by local businesses and would involve champagne and raffles in the upstairs club area.
