“I’ve known Nick since about the age of 16, when I was doing Karate back then. I haven’t fought against him, but we competed in the same tournaments for many years and trained and travelled together for years,” Corbett said.
“I sort of dropped karate and went into the Muay Thai kickboxing world and 15 years later here we are.”
It will not be Corbett’s first trip to Inverell, he said he had been here a few times before to compete in karate tournaments.
“It’s going to be nice to come back and visit. I haven’t seen Nick’s kids yet and it’s going to be nice to catch up with his parents and his brother. I know them all from back then,” Corbett said.
“It’s always nice to get away, it’s good.”
Corbett said he liked the idea of country living, then laughed when he said he also liked convenience, so perhaps he would have to give a country lifestyle more thought.
From 2003 Corbett has won 11 titles and fought across three different weight levels.
His last fight was in April, in the Glory 15: Istanbul Light Heavyweight World Championship tournament, where he came up against Gokhan Saki in the semi-finals. The fight was stopped two and a half minutes into the first round.
“I got hit by a left hook, unfortunately. It tore my (right) earlobe right open and they had to stop the fight. It was pretty bad,” Corbett said.
He said the injury was the worst he had sustained to date and left him with 15 stitches in his ear.
King said he is looking forward to both catching up with Corbett and the workshops he has agreed to give.
“He’ll be giving two one hour workshops at the Lifestyle Centre on Saturday September 13, There’s an hour for kids and an hour for adults,” King said.
Corbett said it will be a technique workshop.
“We’ll go through a lot of variations of skills and training combinations, and then a few different mindset skills and then a few questions, and so on,” Corbett said.
For more information on the workshop phone the Nick King Lifestyle Centre on 6721 1112.
