It culminated in their win at the regional finals when they defeated Narrabri High School at Narrabri on Monday.
The Round 5 win follows wins in Rounds 2, 3 and 4 against Warialda, Glen Innes and Farrer High Schools, respectively.
Coach Chris Drake said by taking out the regional final the team had won the John Gleeson Shield, last brought home by Inverell High in 2001, and was one of the 10 top teams that will now play for the Davison Shield.
“Our top scorer in the game against Narrabri was Richard Wilson who scored 54 (not out), and Kyle Chilcott scored 21, and Declan Drake scored 17,” Drake said.
Narrabri high were 10/128, which fell just short of Inverell’s tally of 6/130
“Richard Wilson was also our best bowler, he took 4/20, Sage Cook took 2/17 and Blake Whitechurch took 1/26,” Drake said.
He said the team’s most convincing win was against Warialda High School, but Drake said the best game was the win against Farrer at Tamworth.
“Always nice to win there,” Drake said with a chuckle.
“A couple of the players are backing up from last year, but basically it’s year 9 to year 11 students, because the way the competition runs, the year 12 students are ineligible.
“A lot of them come through rep cricket together and play either A grade or B grade in the local competition. We now play in a regional final and have a home game early next year (in February) against the winners of the North-Coast region.”
Drake said his hopes are also high for his team’s success in that match.
