The event was launched by the Inverell Macintyre Lions Club to raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and organiser Andrew Fuller, said this year’s celebration is a revival of the previous local festival, Celebration of the Outback.
“I was on the original committee. I think it lasted two years, and certain circumstances led it to just die on the vine. I just thought it was such a good idea,” Mr Fuller said.
“We (now) have a joint committee between the Inverell Macintyre Lions and the rescue helicopter committee, and we’ve been working hard.”
Mr Fuller said it was the reason why he joined the Lions Club in the first place.
“I’ve never been a member of a service club before, and they had people on the ground that could make this happen,” he said.
“Its success will ride on the incredible generosity of the local community.”
The celebration will feature a show by comedians Murray & Marko, who work the club circuit in Sydney.
“They call them selves the Naked Poets. I have no idea why,” Mr Fuller said.
“But they do say if you don’t get a laugh out of the evening then you’ve had a humour bypass.”
The event will be held in the Town Hall from 7pm on the Saturday night at a cost of $30 per person, and then again at the Pioneer Village on Easter Sunday for bush poetry, entertainment and a barbecue at a cost of $20.
Tickets will be available at the door.
Mr Fuller said the event was also running a raffle with a one week stay at Cabraita Beach in a family unit and $500 spending money as first prize.
