“It’s lovely, beautiful. Too windy!” said Leona Robinson, visiting from Delungra. 28 teams from across the region braved the breezy weather and joined Inverell for a day of bowls to help celebrate the occasion.
“We’re having a good game. I’m not playing so well, but what’s new in this world?” said bowler Nanette Jemmison.
The club’s vice president Ann Barry was excited that Inverell had reached such a significant milestone.
“Not many bowling clubs get to celebrate 60 years with the rate they’re closing these days,” she said. Ann has been involved in women’s bowls since 2003, but said that many Inverell members had been staples of the club for much longer. She was pleased that Robyn and many NSW teams joined in the celebrations.
“Some are from as far away as Narrabri, Moree, Tenterfield, Kootingal, Armidale and Guyra. And many from other towns,” she said. Along with the bowlers themselves, many non-playing visitors joined the women for lunch and an anniversary cake.
Ann said she enjoyed bowls because of the social outing and the healthy competition.
“It’s very competitive,” she said.
