Growing seeds
On the Pulse was talking to two respectable, responsible, not-know-to-anyone pensioners (we’ll just call them Pete and Sonya) Sorry Mick, Pete was the first name On the Pulse thought of. They wish to remain anonymous because of a true story about a curious seedling (we’ll call it Weed) just inside their six-foot wooden paling back fence.

When Pete discovered Weed, he wondered what sort of wildflower might bloom and so threw some ‘give it a chance’ water over it and forgot it. Several weeks later, despite the lack of attention, the seedling managed to grow halfway up the fence, and caused Pete to notice Weed’s very distinctive leaf.
So Pete called out to Sonya to take a look, to confirm his suspicions. Sonya told On the Pulse she was also certain about Weed’s pedigree. With the old adage “I wasn’t always a pensioner” in mind, On the Pulse thought it indiscrete to ask how she knew. Nevertheless, one thing led to another for Pete and Weed. What with Pete forgetting to throw a bit of Round Up on Weed and people coming over to dinner, Weed became a bit of a talking point and managed to grow taller than the fence.
That’s when Pete decided old mate had to go. Even so, when Pete took his coffee out the back the following morning and noticed Weed missing he felt that sense of violation that all victims of theft would recognise. It was short-lived, because he then found the bottle of half-decent red beside Weed’s stump with “Thanks Heaps” written across its label.

Inverell resident Les Eastaway is compiling a history of winners and performances and wonders if anyone in the community has any scorebooks or details that will throw light on some of the yearly winners.
Winners for the following years are required: 1953, 1962, 1963, 1964,1965, 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1975.The trophy, (The VP Wiltshire Cup) has been located, and we wish to preserve this local sporting history for the community.
