“In the early stages of the game Barraba played pretty well and we weren’t playing at our best,” Davidson said.

“We probably put ourselves under a bit of pressure.”

Davidson said it was not until the final 20 minutes of the second-half that the Highlanders started to run away with the game.

“I’m sure Barraba were disappointed with their effort. Some of the Barraba boys dropped their heads in the last 20 minutes, and yeah, the score blew out there because with 30 minutes to go they were only a couple of tries behind,” he said.

Davidson said the Highlanders played very good attacking football during the second-half and scored some excellent tries.

Saturday’s results sees the Highlanders with three wins from four games and Davidson thinks the club is sitting well on the table, but said the table did not mean very much at this time of the year.

“It all depends who everybody’s played at this time and we haven’t played any of the top sides yet,” he said.

“We’re not getting carried away by any means. We’ve got some tough games in front of us.”

This week the Highlanders will travel to Gunnedah to play the Red Devils, and Davidson said he was not expecting that to be an easy game.

“It’s one we have to win if we’re going to see ourselves in the top tier this year,” he said.

“It’s one we marked off early in the season as a must win.

“And of course, the week after that we have another big game against Moree and following that we have a game against Narrabri.”

“We need to get the win at Gunnedah and then just ramp it up, because we’ve got a tough little campaign in the next month.”
