Run by My Choice Matters, the workshop was originally intended to come to town on Tuesday, June 28, ahead of the July 1 rollout of NDIS. It will now run on July 20 at the Inverell East Bowling Club.
Workshop facilitator Ann Murphy, who has a school and adult education background, will answer questions and provide resources for curious locals. My Choice Matters, funded by the state government, have been travelling around the state to help people with disabilities and their families and carers prepare for the NDIS changes.
“They're really well attended and people walk out, I think a lot more confident,” community engagement officer Brandon Bear said.
He believed most people worried about the changes were missing key information and simply had trouble figuring out how to prepare and what to do first. He said the workshop was about helping locals address any concerns they may have.
Brandon advised those affected by the scheme to find out as much information as possible. This will include people with disabilities who are currently receiving funding, and some who are not may also become eligible.
“The things we talk about are an increase in choice (and) control,” he said.
“It's about people with disability being supported to make real choices.”
