Claire Polosak as been appointed as Cricket NSW’s umpire educator and female engagement officer and said they are eager to recruit women for the role.
The primary purpose of this role is to engage with females with regards to umpiring and to encourage them to enter the officiating environment. This is both in metropolitan and regional NSW.
“I have conducted a survey about the attitudes to female umpiring, and the biggest barrier to females considering umpiring, is a lack of awareness to the possibility,” she said.
“I am trying to get the message out to as wide an audience as possible in the lead up to the new season starting.”
Cricket Australia has a Community Officiating course that is aimed at people involved in grassroots cricket, and currently free for females to complete.
There are also other courses also offered for umpiring senior (men’s and women’s club cricket) comprising of an online module that takes approximately one hour to complete, three-hour face-to-face workshop that will go into more detail following the online component, as well as strategies and techniques so the participants are confident about coping with the umpiring environment.
The course is nationally recognised, as part of the Cricket Australia accreditation program. To learn more, contact Claire on Claire.Polosak@cricketnsw.com.au.
