The community project to feed district pensioners in need won the Northern Inland Innovations Award for Agriculture, Horticulture and Associated Services at the annual presentation night at the Inverell RSM Club on November 18.
The garden concept developer, BEST social programs co-ordinator Danny Middleton, said he was “over the moon” with the award.
The Inverell BEST Food Garden engages toddlers, students, job seekers, volunteers, residents with compromised abilities and seniors in order to deliver fresh vegetables, eggs, and baked goods with flour donated by Inverell’s Woods Organic Flour Mill to well over 100 pensioners across Inverell, Tingha, Moree and Glen Innes on a weekly basis.
The Agriculture, Horticulture and Associated Services category considers the best practice and innovative operation.
All the awards take into account design excellence and sustainability and how the projects or innovations positively benefit their communities.
