The classics specialist was a surprise inclusion in the national squad after injury forced Haussler to undergo three rounds of knee surgery during the last year.
The elite cyclist said the 267.5km event is “a typical classics course and that is one of my strengths ... it will be all about positioning, saving energy and knowing when to go.”
Haussler will support title contender and designated Australian squad leader, Michael Matthews.
“A big plus for me is that we both work well together,” Haussler said.
This year’s elite men’s road race is expected to be heavily influenced by the weather.
Haussler said rain on Sunday would make racing difficult over the long distance but currently sunny conditions are predicted.
