“It’s a significant facility for that area,” Inverell Shire Council general manager Paul Henry said.
Located between Graman and Ashford, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall will be on hand to open the joint state government and Inverell council project. The state government provided $800,000 of the funding, while the local council contributed $200,000.
“This will provide a much higher level structure than what was previously there, and that will enable the bridge to be used in times of high flows in the river,” Mr Henry said.
“So it reduces the amount of disruption to children getting to school and of course, residents of the area accessing the road network.”
He said the facility was a continuation of the council’s decade-long focus on improving the shire’s bridges, with no fully timber constructed bridges left.
“In the last 10 years, council’s replaced, upgraded 18 bridges,” he said.
“It’s quite a significant investment in the upgrade of road facilities.”
