As of Thursday, results to our poll remain largely negative, with 76 per cent (332 of 435) stating they don’t like the plan. 13 per cent were in favour, while six per cent had mixed feelings. The remaining four per cent either said they didn’t care, or chose the ‘other’ option.

The London Plane trees are now a menace. Many more were placed, outside of the resolution of the council. Both Otho and Byron Street, years ago had trees up the centre. The only bad thing in the design, is the removal of the high pedestrian crossings. Council, twice asked the RMS, to leave them, but to no avail. The Police wanted them retained as a safety measure to deter speedsters, when approching the crossing.

Most of the stuff that has been brought up by the "concerned citizens" has been found to be fake and I have gone to council myself to see exactly what is to be done and I like the idea yes there will be some inconvenience during construction but I'm sure council will try to have minimal impact on businesses during this time.

Inverell needs to grow and be more attractive to others.
Wednesday, Jan 24th 8:16PM
The Inverell Times should find some real news. This negativity is the result of a few, and I do say a few, silly people. Let's mover on and start work.
Wednesday, Jan 24th 11:53AM
Safer for less mobile to cross the road and the trees need to be replaced.
Wednesday, Jan 24th 8:36AM
Trees planted in pipes a big mistake and problems getting worse.
Short term inconvenience for good long term outcome.
Council has support of silent majority.

It is needed to move with times,
To keep Inverell vibrant and not die a slow death
It will boost tourism
It is in harmony with past improvements.

It will remove the problematic plane trees while revitalising the CBD. Compared to most towns Inverell boasts a huge quantity of offstreet parking which negates the complaints that the new median strip will reduce parking. It is obvious the the majority of ratepayers were more than happy to re-elect the bulk of councillors who supported the redevelopment implementation.

We need these councillors to continue to take inverell to the next level.

We need to always go forward and not stagnate

Inverell is growing. It is becoming difficult to get a park in the main streets, harder still when people can't reverse into their own bays correctly, and with no accountability (parking fines) it will continue to get worse.
Traffic is slowing considerably due to pedestrians dribbling across the crossings, with traffic being banked up sometimes 2 blocks away. A medium strip will allow pedestrians to cross at other sections of the road more safely, preventing build up of traffic.
I am concerned, however, that reversing back into traffic (from nose-in parking) could become a problem for lower/longer vehicles like mine (a station wagon). If this problem is addressed, then I'm all for it.
The plane trees are apai. In the rear end. I have often stumbled on their root system getting out of my car, and the fluff from their seed pods cause havok with my eyes. They're awesome in the parks, but not in our streets.

Current variety of plane trees create ongoing road and footpath maintenance issues with associated cost - planned makeover will improve the streetscape with benefits to business owners and community!

Mother is allergic
Monday, Jan 22nd 9:29AM
I have travell throughout most of NSW, QLD, Vic, NT and SA there are not too many towns I have not driven though or stayed at; Inverell has to one of the prettiest towns I’ve ever been through.

No body likes change wait until it's all finished a new look will be great
It brings more people to the towns district especially with Inverell growing rapidly

Great

Time for something new but maybe not nose in parking. In the instance of if your driving on the road and someone pulls out really quick you have no where to go but straight into a cement median strip which I imagine has trees that's never going to end well. So maybe alter plans a little bit
Saturday, Jan 20th 3:56PM
I'm allergic to them trees so really happy to see them go.
Saturday, Jan 20th 3:35PM
It may be an inconvenience to start off with but will give the town a fresh new modern space in the end.
Saturday, Jan 20th 1:13AM
The plane trees are a trip hazard, messy and terrible for allergies. Be glad to get rid of them. By having a median stip will allow trees and shade there. I realise there will be disruptions but I will still shop the same. Everything is in walking distance so doesn’t matter.
Friday, Jan 19th 10:14PM
I like the idea of shared zones for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Friday, Jan 19th 6:10PM
The end result will be a more user-friendly CBD which is much cooler during the heat of summer
Friday, Jan 19th 1:58PM
The plane trees are very destructive and the CBD renewal plan looks fantastic. The CBD will never look better after works are completed.

Fresh updates are needed to keep tourists coming. I also think you take more pride in your town if it is improved from time to time. Town looks good so businesses follow suit.
Wednesday, Jan 17th 9:40PM
I like change. The town is due for some change
