The Chinese community that once dominated Tingha may have slowly disappeared, but the residents of Tingha continue to pay homage to the town’s heritage with the annual Chinese Lantern Festival.

The Tingha Sport and Recreation Club was jam-packed with locals dressed in oriental garments. MP Adam Marshall showed his support for the event that was also attended by Inverell Mayor Paul Harmon and a number of Council officials from Inverell.
Just 18 minutes away from Inverell, it is hoped that Tingha will soon be moved from the old Guyra Shire to the Inverell Shire (who wants them with open arms).
But the event on Sunday was not about administration and politics but about history, and of course, food.
What takes the cake at the event every year is the food and Chinese chef, John Cai, from the Mun Hing Chinese restaurant at Armidale was there to cook for the crowd.
Once again, the Tingha Citizens Association Incorporated did a wonderful job of remembering the town’s heritage.
