Around 250 primary and secondary school students from around the region gathered at the RSM Club on Friday to complete eight tasks relating to science and engineering.
Points were accumulated throughout the day, and this year Danthonia took the top prize with 1410 points.
Runners up were Glen Innes High School with 859 points.
In its eighth year, the challenge is hosted by Inverell Rotary Club with assistance from Inverell East, Glen Innes and Warialda Rotary clubs.
Founded by the University of Newcastle in 2000, the event has grown year by year.
The challenge works to address a skills shortage in science and engineering by inspiring young people to study maths, physics and chemistry.
It provides students with an exhilarating day where they compete with other school groups in engaging and demanding science and engineering-based activities.
The challenge also gives students an appreciation of what it would be like to work as a scientists or engineer.
