A Marine Enforcement Team from Sydney's Marine Command attended Inverell equipped with a police launch and two jetskis to supplement Iocal police launch patrols.
On the water over the weekend more than 200 people were subjected to random breath tests and 40 for random drug tests.
There were also inspections of vessels for safety equipment and licence compliance.
Although a relatively small number of infringement notices were issued, this was eclipsed by formal warnings issued and most pleasing, no positive drug or alcohol readings detected.
The operation was geared towards high visibility and education rather than purely compliance.
"To have that many people visiting Copeton it is a credit to their common sense and behaviour there were no major issues reported,” Inverell police officer-in-charge, Chief Inspector Rowan O'Brien said.
"The guys from Marine Command commented it is the only place they have ever been to, where people actually chased them to request a check to make sure they had all the right safety gear."
