The young rockers will perform in Sydney’s Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Saturday, April 21 as part of YouthRock 2018. A NSW Youth Week event, over $10,000 worth of prizes is up for grabs, with 34 bands competing.
“It was really unreal,” lead guitarist Jacob Dewberry said on learning they were in the semi-finals.
“We were watching all these Youtube clips of previous years and crikey, they’re good.”
Tabou will perform a 15 minute set of original songs. They are hoping to make it to the grand finals, with all finalists offered studio recording time.
Jacob said the band was proud to represent Inverell High School in the city-centric event. Jacob, rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist Kye Pactwa, singer Zac Nedianu and drummer Lachlan Corrigan all attend Inverell High, while bass player Beau Monckton is a former Macintyre High student.
Inverell High music teacher Jenny Craven has been a constant support for the band, and will accompany them for the trip.
“She was nearly as excited as us,” Jacob said. The band also thanked Mycall Wardle and Chris Richter who helped them with their YouthRock submission and previous gigs.
“Getting accepted into this competition has meant a great deal to us as it is a great opportunity to share our music that we've worked so hard on with people statewide,” Jacob said.
Tabou has undergone several changes over the past few years, including new members and a name change from The Best of Us (which was often abbreviated to TBOU), but they now feel they’ve produced “the best version of the band yet”.
To celebrate their new opportunity, Tabou will be performing at the Australian Hotel on Friday, April 13 from 8pm along with Perfect Asylum, Jacob Station, Jemima McLachlan and Jack & Jacob.
