As the sun streamed through a fan of clouds seemingly tailor-made for the moment, up to 500 people stood before Inverell’s cenotaph in silence to commemorate the Anzacs.

“The crowds are just getting overwhelming, bigger and bigger every year,” RSL secretary Graeme Clinch said.
He said organisers weren’t sure why Inverell’s interest in remembrance services had grown so much in recent years, but really appreciated the large turnout.
“It’s great for us as returned servicemen to see people showing their appreciation,” Mr Clinch said.
Inverell’s Anzac Day march will leave from Oliver Street at 10.30am this morning, moving up Vivian and Byron Street to the cenotaph.
