Publicity officer Pam McLeay, supported by secretary Jane Hunter, spoke in the open forum of council’s monthly meeting.
“This year the NSW CWA has chosen four focus areas that effect women and families in rural communities.
“Our branch has chosen to focus on one which we feel is very relevant to adolescent girls in our community; that is the need to empower our young women by developing resilience and a strong sense of identity,” she explained.
Mrs McLeay said Inverell CWA planned to host two events on September 22, as well as workshops for girls in Years 7-10 with guest speaker Danielle Miller.
Inverell Shire Council voted to support the local branch in hosting the events with $4,000 in financial assistance.
Founder of Enlightened Education, Dannielle Miller is a best-selling author, educator and media commentator, who has been engaged by Inverell CWA to speak at the events.
“We are going to have a morning tea and a high tea afternoon. Our target audience are parents, aunties, grannies, female siblings, any person of interest and service providers.”
Mrs McLeay described Dannielle as “passionate and committed” to equip young girls so they can develop resilience, and a sense of who they are to cope with great pressures upon them today.
