Held at the Town Hall from Thursday to Saturday, the high school edition maintains the enormous scale of the rock and roll classic, with 23 songs performed by a 100-strong cast and crew.
The tale follows Sherrie Christian (Jordie Cox), a small town girl keen to make a name for herself in a city struggling to maintain its roots as developers move in.
Sporting a stylish curly mullet, Kye Pactwa co-stars as Drew, who bonds with Sherrie over their shared dream of stardom, while Lachlan Corrigan plays Stacee Jaxx, an aging rockstar facing the horrors of losing his hair.
“This is all about the fight for rock and roll to last, for our small town girl to make it big in the big city of LA and for a love story between Drew and Sherrie to blossom,” director Jade Bradley explained.
“In a big theatre, you would have three stages set, and we have one. It’s just a testament to how amazing all the kids are and the crew are with being able to make this work on one stage.”
She said the band, led by music teacher Jenny Craven and lead guitarist Jacob Dewberry was ‘awesome’. Altogether, Ms Bradley was proud to work with “such amazing and talented kids”.
Tickets are available from Tourism Inverell.
