Local ambos, firefighters and police officers have banded together to host the triples lawn bowls day, with all proceeds to go to the Terry Lawlor vehicle fund.
Terry, who has a form of motor nuerone disease, uses a motorised wheelchair. Due to the degenerative nature of his condition, mobility is an increasing concern.
Following a fashion parade and raffle, the community has already raised $23,000 for the Lawlor family.
It is a significant step towards the final goal of $70,000-$80,000, which will purchase a vehicle and lifting equipment to help Terry accompany his wife Allison and two young daughters to family and community events.

“As soon as we knew the cause, it wasn’t very difficult to say we need to do something,” paramedic Clint McSpedden said.
“Terry’s father Leo Lawlor was a member of the emergency services in the capacity of a paramedic for over 40 years here in the local area, so it is a little bit of a nod to Leo as well.”
Clint encouraged the whole community to get involved.
“If you don’t know how to play bowls, even better, because we don’t either!”
Terry and Allison said they were humbled, but very happy to see so many support their family.
“It sounds like it’s going to be a very fun afternoon and we’re looking forward to it. The girls have got no idea what bowling is, but they are looking forward to it too,” Terry said.
The family had a blast at the BEST Community Shed’s fashion show earlier this month, which raised $2,200 for the cause.
“The fashion parade was an absolute giggle. Our little girls came home with a few outfits and Lucy slept in one, she was so happy with hers. Katie was a bit upset that she ran out of costumes so quickly,” Terry said.
Over 130 came along to the day, with Emma Macintyre taking home first prize in the jewellery raffle and Wendy King the runner up.
Peter Vandersteen from Glen Innes provided the entertainment, and even recorded a jingle to help advertiser the fundraiser on STA FM.
The fierce competition between each emergency service is sure to entertain.

“At the moment the police, firies and ambos have always been very good friends in this area, and we work very well together - but the gloves are off Saturday,” Clint said.
With teams of three, entry is $15 a head, and includes a sausage sizzle. Individual nominations are also welcome. To register, call Dave Curtis on 0403 638 607 before Sunday.
The bowls day will be held at the Inverell East Bowling Club from 11am on Sunday.
The Inverell Saints are also preparing to host an AFL fundraiser game on Saturday, August 11. This will be followed by a monster auction on August 25.
Raffle tickets are also on sale at the BEST Community Shed.
