Led by husband and wife duo Craig and Kat Tulczyn, the club boasted 95 registrations and fielded eight teams this year.
Adding to their success, they’ve been nominated for Country Rugby League’s (CRL) 2018 Club of the Year.
Tulczyn said he found out about the nomination via email.
“We were named the Greater Northern Regional Club of the Year which covers Group 19, Group 21 and Group 4. Now we’ve been invited down to Sydney on August 11 for an awards dinner.”

He said the nomination for CRL Club of the Year was “awesome” considering how young the club itself was.
Three years ago, Tulczyn put the idea to his wife to try and start a junior club in Ashford.
“Our kids were travelling in to play junior league in Inverell, and so were a few others. There were a lot of kids out in Ashford so we decided to give it a go,” he said.
Tulczyn found trying to keep the club running was a difficult task during the first two years.
“Junior clubs are volunteer run. It was difficult at first to get people to put their hands up but we’ve seen an incredible increase in volunteers from the first year to now.”
Ashford’s Junior Rugby League Club has become an integral part of the local community by providing an outlet for youngsters to become actively involved in the sport.
Ashford itself has a total population of less than 1000.
