A memorial race day was held in honour of Scott Fermor, a local boy who tragically lost his life in an accident earlier this year.
Scott spent many years on the motorcross track racing around the countryside winning KTM cups and championships along with mates Jay Wilson, Joel Rizzo and Brett Carroll to name a few.
On the day approximately 90 riders came to show their respect to ride and race as it was also round four of the Inverell motorcycle sports club so this included our regular racers in the pack.
Riders from as young as 4 years old to 60 years old spread across the riding classes. With riders who hadn’t been on a motorbike for 5-9yrs coming out of retirement so to speak.
A lot of Scott’s local mates even dusted off a bike to join in for the day riding the non competitive recreation class.
Boys like the well known Horwood brothers Christian, Peter and Sam who hadn’t ridden on the Inverell track together for 13 years. So the day held special moments for a lot of people.
A special slowly ridden lap of honour was the opening of the day with a selected few riders from Scott’s parents Colin and Meg Fermor to remember their son and a sport excelled at and loved doing for so many years with his mum, dad and sister Kayla.
Scott’s good mates Jay Wilson and Joel Rizzo traveled back to be part of the day. Jay carved up the track throughout the day putting on great entertainment for the massive amount of spectators.
Due to injury Joel wasn’t able to race but was privileged to lead the pack alongside Jay for the lap of honour for their best mate Scotty. Scott is a very well respected and remembered motorcross rider in the Inverell and surrounding communities.
Family and friends enjoyed the day as people came from near and afar for this special day for Scott and his family.
Through the generous donations of the Inverell community and businesses a raffle With over 35 prizes up for grabs.
We would like to thank the Viking Breed for their donation of a $1,000 cheque presented to Colin and Meg.
Memorial shirts were sold with Scott’s race number on it to remember the day. All proceeds and monies donated for Scott’s memorial race day will be going towards installing new racing start gates for the Inverell Motorcross track.
These start gates will hold a special place in many people‘s hearts with a memorial plague being placed on them in honour of Scott Fermor. A total of what was raised during this event hasn’t been tallied yet but expecting to reach around the $5,000 mark.
Inverell Motorcycle Sports Club Organisers and Bec and Justin Solomon would like to express their thanks to Scott’s family for allowing us the privilege to hold this memorial day in honour of their son Scott.
Thanks to everyone who made this Memorial Race Day possible especially Justin Solomon, Tony Williamson and Daryl Lewis for the endless hours of work at the track.

A great day was had by all and injury free on the riders behalf. Spectator numbers were estimated at more than 450 making it one event to remember for many years to come.
Thoughts are with the Fermor family as Scott was extremely loved and will be missed terribly.
