The Inverell Saints men’s team secured themselves a home Grand Final by beating last year’s premiers the Gunnedah Bulldogs.

The Saints hosted the Bulldogs in the major semi final on Saturday in extremely wet conditions.
Neither side could move the ball freely and the score was very low throughout the first half.
The Saints new it would take their best efforts to prevail under these conditions and coach Justin Pay was proud of the effort of everyone of his players.
“All of the boys gave 100 per cent and we knew that’s what it would take to win,” he said.
The final score was 58-30 in favour of the Saints who now host the Grand Final on September 8.
The best players for the saints were Luke Selig, Hayden Chappel, Troy Hill and Mick Corcoran.
Unfortunately the Inverell Saints women’s team were very unlucky and went down to the Tamworth Kangaroos, 1.1.7 to 0.2.2.
It was an extremely wet and muddy day with the play of ball being very congested with minimal kicks being made.
Best on ground for the Saints was Chloe Gleeson with great support from Jaimie Pay and Larissa Matheson.
The women’s team now head to Gunnedah on Saturday to play against the New England Nomads to fight for a spot in the grand final.
The Saints junior team also had a loss, going down against the Moree Suns 26-33. It was a hard game for the boys, playing in very tough conditions.
“They have some focus points to work on at training this week and he is feeling confident for their next game,” coach Beau Coles said.
Best player was Sebastian Blair.
The Juniors will join the women’s team and travel to Gunnedah this Saturday versing The New England Nomads.
