The Variety Postie Dash got off to a roaring start on Sunday with a cavalry of colourful characters setting off on the six day trek from Fitzroy Street.
Just before the group kicked in to gear, it donated a cheque worth $4705 to St Nicholas’ primary school which will go towards purchasing a 3D printer.

Assistant principal Lisa McSweeney said the printer would be a benefit to its visually impaired students
“The 3D printer is allowing them to access the curriculum better,” Ms McSweeney said.
“When there are pictures being discussed at school, or they’re studying certain subjects like geography ,we can print an image of that particular item or object and it allows them to feel that and create an image in their mind of what that looks like.”
Along the way Bundarra Central, West Glen Infants, Nymboida Public, Toormina Public and Bullimbal will also receive donations of equipment.
The six-day charity ride will travel through Bundarra, Glen Innes, Nymboida, Coffs Harbour, Toormina, Kempsey, Kew, Taree, Nowendoc and Walcha before arriving back in Tamworth at 12.30pm, Friday, November 9.
“First National Real Estate are thrilled to sponsor the event again this year as it is an example of our local agencies commitment to help Aussie kids in need,” First National Real Estate CEO, Ray Ellis said.
“We can think of no better person than local agent David Doherty to represent us throughout the ride. His endeavours combined with all of our agencies throughout New England put our commitment into action.
“We wish all riders the best and look forward to the many school visits along the route.”
