NSW Highway Patrol said officers caught a 29-year-old man transporting a carton of beer on the fuel tank of his bike in Newcastle.
Photos of the incident show the man riding with the carton propped between his legs and the handlebars.
Police issued the rider with a $448 fine for "drive vehicle with unsecured load".
The event is reminiscent of another man's attempt to tow a boat with a mobility scooter in Belmont last year.
The King Street sighting was not the only incidence of NSW road users getting creative with their loads this week.
Highway patrol officers spotted a car with "Stikeez" populating its front windscreen.
