Inverell's BEST Community Shed has been nominated into the 2019 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards.
In the award category Connecting Communities, BEST Community Shed is a volunteer-driven, community initiative working to empower and support the Inverell district with aid, skills, compassion and altruism.
Great prizes are up for grabs in the Regional Achievement and Community Awards including $2000 for seven category winners. Other category winners will receive television exposure and a trophy.
In the nomination form, it was outlined BEST Community Shed would not exist without direct and ongoing investment of community involvement and collaboration to effectively support individuals and families in need, as well as the mission of other services.
They rely directly upon current and long-tern community issues, and the contribution of Best Community Shed participants in every capacity to meet the challenge.
Op-shop volunteers design all operational and strategic plans including opening and closing hours, staff schedules, initiatives to support any acute and chronic community needs, donations, troubleshooting and more.
BEST's pool of volunteers is growing along with its community involvement. It stands as a true homegrown initiative by the district to assist the district and as such has attracted wide support.
