The awards have had a three-year break and are back bigger than ever. With over 180 nominations from over 90 businesses, it has been pleasing to see such interest and enthusiasm in celebrating the Inverell business community.
Each category has strong nominations and all businesses are covered from sole traders to large employers, trade-based business, retail, hospitality and professional services and new and long established businesses.
The nomination process this year has been simplified, which allowed the wider community to get involved and put forward their favourite businesses to be part of the awards. This resulted is a significant number of businesses being nominated, including businesses that may not have previously been involved in the awards process.
Sixteen judges have worked hard over the past month to visit businesses and undertake the judging process. It's been an extremely difficult process and they have invested a lot of time to make sure they complete this role with integrity and transparency. The committee can not thank the judges enough for volunteering their time.
The awards night will see the Inverell Sports Council awards announced as well. It is a great opportunity to join with this organisation to recognise the importance of sport in our community.
There will be 14 awards presented, including Overall Best Inverell Business and the Outstanding Achievement Award, which gives recognition to a business, organisation or event that has made significant contribution to the whole community.
Our guest speaker this year is of an International calibre. Sebastian Terry is the author of 100 Things and has two internationally released feature documentaries on his own story. Sebastian will share his story, and will no doubt inspire us to reflect and challenge ourselves to reach our future goals and make a difference in our community.
The role of the chamber is to support local businesses, providing opportunities to grow and develop to ensure long term viability and success. The local economy has been significantly impacted by the drought, changes in the retail space and overall difficult trading conditions, however our community is doing better then most.
We are fortunate to have significant infrastructure projects over the past few years that has boosted our local economy. We have had a strong focus on promoting our business community through our innovative, Choose Inverell campaign. We are working hard to ensure that we promote the Inverell business community and advocate on their behalf on a local, regional, state and federal level.
