Inverell Fire and Rescue personnel strapped on HAZMAT suits yesterday whilst attending reports of an unknown chemical spill at the materials recovery facility within Inverell landfill.

Pumper 331, composite 331, hazmat composite 302 (Glen Innes) and the local duty commander attended the scene at around 10am on Tuesday.
With the help of Inverell Shire Council staff, who also attended the incident, safety was maintained.
Once on scene, Fire and Rescue crews entered wearing fully encapsulated suits to inspect and identify the chemicals involved in the spill.
After the specific chemicals were identified, crews were able to begin work cleaning up the area. The area was rendered safe by the duty commander and the site was handed back over to centre management.
Inverell Shire Council took to Facebook to inform the community of the landfill's re-opening yesterday and took the opportunity to thank emergency service personnel and council staff who attended the scene.
Part of one of the worlds largest fire fighting services, the Inverell 331 FRNSW station provides coverage to the community of Inverell for all firefighting and hazardous materials incidents.
The station is a secondary rescue station and is fully equipped to deal with all kinds of emergencies including structural and bush firefighting, HAZMAT and rescue.
Inverell also provides backup to other stations in the New England and North West. The brigade are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
