But three grew to 10 and 10 grew to 20, and Inverell's 'trial' effort hit an unprecedented gathering of 23 people with a support crew of 60, all to raise money for breast cancer.
"The idea started with me asking a few friends if they wanted to do a group run for the Mother's Day Classic," Mrs Bienke said.
"It really knocked on from there".

An eye-watering total of $5390 was tallied up, an impressive amount to come from a single person's ambition.
"We just said that if everyone raised $100 or $200 each we would see where we went, but then heaps of businesses donated, Woolworth's donated everything for the barbecue, our local Coke rep donated all the water and drinks."
This year, the Mother's Day Classic went local, allowing teams to go on a virtual fun-run or walk in an effort to encapsulate community spirit seen at physical Mother's Day Classic events.
Held on Mother's Day, the run aims to honour those touched by breast cancer while raising money for breast cancer research.
But despite the success of 2021's run, Mrs Bienke said it won't stop there for Inverell.

"Because of COVID restrictions the [event organisers] let smaller rural towns get together, and we decided to have it here - because next year we want to bring the actual event to Inverell," she explained.
