The body has not yet been officially identified.

New England police told the Times a body was found about 10:30am on Thursday, on the second day of a three-day coordinated search for 22-year-old Mr Copeland.

The body was found by divers in the river, only about 500 metres from where the Moree man was last seen entering the water back in the early hours of July 10.

The human remains will be forensically examined and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Mr Copeland's disappearance is subject to an independent critical incident investigation, being undertaken by Oxley police.

Police allege a Toyota Corolla seen speeding along the Newell Highway was found bogged near the Yarraman bridge in the early hours of July 10.

Mr Copeland allegedly fled and entered the river when officers tried to speak with him, according to police.

A coordinated three-day search was launched on Wednesday in the rugged Gwydir River area known as "the raft" after Mr Copeland's family pushed police for answers.

Search efforts were made up of police officers, divers, rescue teams, mounted and dog squad units, as well as firefighters, the State Emergency Service and the Marine Area Command.

The family of the missing man welcomed the renewed search effort, and said even if their father, son, brother, cousin and nephew Mr Copeland was not with them any more, they wanted to lay him to rest.
