Company president Peter Eddy said the group has two casting sessions scheduled next week on Thursday and Saturday morning for anybody who wants to get back on stage or try for the first time.
The company has been in limbo for a few years, but Peter said frequent expressions of interest have sparked the revival of the acting troupe.
“I think the demand is there still, so when Chris stepped forward and offered to direct the play, we thought the time was right to try again. But the success of it will be totally dependant on people to take on acting roles,” he said.
“Probably what we need more than anything, are actors in that 20 to 60 age group to give us a core for future plays, basically.”
Chris said she chose Mort because the play is accessible to many ages, and offers actors a chance to be really creative.
“Because it’s a comedy, and because its very good for character actors; for people who enjoy creating a role,” she said.
“It’s not a realist play in any sense. It’s fantasy and it’s fun. It offers a big scope.”
“They were the most popular novels in Britain through the 90s until JK Rowling took over. They were the highest selling novels in the UK,” Peter said.
The Inverell Theatre Company is inviting the public to audition on Thursday, July 31 at 7pm and Saturday, August 2 at 9am at the Inverell NECOM campus, 79 Moore Street. Scripts will be provided and people will have time to digest the content before giving it a try.
Positions are also open for set design and construction, costumes, make-up, and front-of-house staff.
Peter said fledgling actors extremely welcome.
“I’ve seen a lot of people go on stage for the first time, often with some trepidation, but I’ve never seen anybody that regretted the experience,”
“They’ve universally found it to be rewarding, enjoyable experience.”
