ABC Local is a project that posts mostly homemade video projects online and library manager, Sonya Lange, said the sessions were a good chance to show what the program has to offer.
“It was to explore what people might be interested in doing here in Inverell,” Ms Lange said.
“It is a first for this library, although ABC Local has been running for some time and their Tamworth office has been doing programs in other libraries closer to Tamworth.”
About 20 people attended the sessions, many of them school students, but Ms Lange said it showed clearly that there were people interested in the opportunity that was being offered.
“The program is about skilling people in the art of digital storytelling,” she said.
“Stories from the community that cam be shared online.”
Tamworth ABC Open producer Tim Leha has a decade of media industry experience and said it was all about making sure people had access to digital storytelling skills.
“Today I’ve been here talking about opportunities to make videos to share with ABC Open,” he said.
“I don’t know if it’s journalism as much as getting people to share their stories.”
Mr Leha said it was a great initiative, and he thought Australia was the only place in the world doing something like it.
“There are 45 local producers like myself, based out of ABC radio stations all over Australia.
“We’re based in regional Australia and we’re here to help people grow their skills so they can share their stories,” he said.
