ADAM Harvey’s new show has been enjoyed by about 15 audiences so far, and is billed as something completely different to the usual ‘support act then main act’ performance. Adam said it is structured more like a jam session at his bar at home, including the occasional stuff up and train wreck.

And while Adam fervently maintains this new structure was an inevitable result of his October 2015 album ‘Harvey’s Bar - The Backyard Sessions’, the nagging suspicion that he actually enjoys having to take his own bar on tour remains.
“I often put photos up on Facebook of my bar, and many people came up and said they would like to spend a night there,” Adam said.
“So I thought I’d get all the local yobbos and the neighbours and everyone in, and record an album in the bar.”
With the album in the bag, Adam said the next thing was to take the bar on the road.
“We’ve had a big backdrop made up, and a bar that is an exact replica of mine,” he said.
“So we set that up onstage every night, with the bar stools out of my place, so when people come to the show, well, it’s welcome to Harvey’s Bar.”
Adam said his was nothing like other shows.
“We give away stuff, we take requests, we get people up on stage and they sing and yahoo and carry on,” he said. “Every night’s different. People can call out songs they want to hear, and it doesn’t have to be my stuff, it can be anything from the Wiggles to Johnny Cash.”
There will be no support act to negotiate, and more of Adam Harvey to enjoy.
“I had so many people say to me, ‘We don’t want to sit through someone we’ve never heard of that puts us to sleep for 45 minutes’,” he said.
“It’s been really well received.
“There’s so much doom and gloom out there in the world. I just think if people can come along to a show, have a bit of a laugh and a bit of a sing along and forget their worries, then we’re doing our job.”
You can spend some time with Adam Harvey in Harvey’s Bar at the Inverell RSM Club from 8pm on Thursday May 26.
