No sooner were the plane trees cut down on Monday, February 12, that the first replacement tree was planted on Wednesday, ahead of schedule.
The tree now stands erect at the Otho Street blister at the crossing.
An army of Pin Oak trees from Newcastle lie in wait.
The vision is for a line of pin oak trees to dot the centre median strips.
Those opposed to the plan point to the unnecessary cost and state that the new design will not allow for shade and detract from the picturesque character that the town is renowned for.
Another faction of the community supports the new plan, stating that it will make it easier for people to travel within the CBD and state that the roots of the plane trees were causing damage to the walkway.
At the end, the result will look a little like the CBD at Coonabarabran where the same tree lines the centre median strip.
