Jean and her husband Fred produced a 50-minute documentary The History of Tingha. Jean has also volunteered at the Wing Hing Long Museum since its inception in 1998.
She was a founding member of the Tingha Citizens Association, a not-for-profit group who organise many fantastic things for the Tingha community.
Tingha’s Young Citizen of the Year was Quentin Williams.
As a Tingha State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service volunteer, Quentin is also a valued player in local cricket and rugby league.
The community service of the year was Tingha Rural Fire Service.
As small band of young volunteers, RFS answer the call day and night, putting their fire service commitments first and sometimes working shifts of up to 18 hours.
Finally, the community event of the year went to Tingha’s Chinese Lantern Parade.
The growing annual festival has developed a strong association with the Chinese Consulate in Sydney, resulting in the six-part documentary In Commemoration of 200 Years of Chinese Immigration to Australia.
Tingha features in the first two episodes. The consulate sponsors the festival’s fireworks display and the Consul General has indicated he will attend the 2019 festival.
