Nightly bus patrols have become a part of Inverell Police's routine, to make sure passengers are not turning up to the Sapphire City from COVID-19 hotspot areas.

"We are doing those patrols," Acting Officer in Charge Sergeant Ross Chilcott explained.
"[We] are checking the bus at night to see if there are any people from hotspots."

The New England had a near-miss this week, with Tamworth police fining a delivery driver from Sydney.
He was fined $1000, tested for COVID-19 and ordered to leave the region.
However Inverell townsfolk have been doing "pretty good" at following COVID-19 safety rules, he noted.
"There's been no significant issues," he said.
"We haven't done anything out of the ordinary yet."
To make sure Inverell stays safe, police officers have not only been doing routine checks of buses, they've been making sure businesses don't get complacent with the rules.
He encouraged residents to keep on doing the right thing, so everyone can start moving forward.
"I know that it's a difficult time, but we have to follow the advice of the health department and the government, and as soon as we do that, the quicker will can come out the other side and get back on with life as we knew it."
