Fragments of the COVID-19 virus have been detected in sewage at Mungindi and Denman, despite there being no known cases in the towns.
Hunter New England Health officials are urging everyone in these areas to come forward for testing even if they have the mildest of symptoms, so they can identify any unknown cases in the community and reduce transmission.
Fifteen new cases have been diagnosed to 8pm on Thursday night across six LGAs in the health district.
The new cases bring the total number of cases in the District to 4,264 since 5 August 2021.
Of the new cases:
NSW has recorded 261 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm.
No deaths were recorded in the reporting period.
