The pair was out for their morning constitution on Wednesday and stopped for a sit-down on the bench in front of Syretts newsagents.
Mitzie was dressed for the season in a miniature Christmas t-shirt, drawing extra attention from children passing on the pavement.
“She loves any kid,” Max said.
It isn’t just the eye-catching clothing. The little dog’s good nature has made her a favourite around town. Max said she often draws coos and attention from pedestrians.
“I reckon everybody in Inverell seems to know her,” Max said, cradling his little dog on his lap.
Mitzie was abandoned on a road, and found by a local woman who gave her to Max for his birthday about two years ago.
There is no doubt that in that time, a deep affection has formed between dog and man. Max held Mitzie like she was made of gold.
“I reckon she was one of the best birthday presents I’ve ever had.”
