The Cup is one of the oldest races on the Inverell racing calendar and continues to be run with the support of the RSM Club and RSL sub-branch, who will again be in attendance.
Locally trained Court Order, winner of the 2015 Picnic Cup, After The Bounce and Benzema will carry the hopes of the locals along with The Cabarita Kid.
From the stable of stable of Warialda’s Leon Cross, The Cabarita Kids comes off a win at big odds at Moree last start and another win will see him jump to an early lead in the Picone Summer Stars Bonus for the leading horse over the summer racing season.
Last start winner Herecum Da Drums will have plenty of local support in the last race the Australian Hotel Class 2 Handicap after a winning at Tamworth on Melbourne Cup day.
Trained at Tamworth by Michelle Fleming, Herecum Da Drums came from last at the corner to win in the last bound. The win followed a strong third at Inverell on Caulfield Cup Day.
The son of sire Drumbeats is raced by a big syndicate formed by Kirk Wynne, who bred the gelding from his former top class race mare Honour Happy List.
Trainer and syndicate member Fleming was left to celebrate the win on her own as work and social commitments prevented the other owners travelling to Tamworth.
After hearing the win of Herecum Da Drums and the celebrations that followed one happy traveller echoed the emotions of many who have shared the joy of owning a winner when she was heard to say, “Couldn’t care about the Melbourne Cup, couldn’t care who won it, we won the maiden at Tamworth.”
Wynne, the horse’s breeder, said, “we have had fun from day one with this horse, from the day we named him after a song by the band Rogue Traders to designing a new set of racing colours and getting a group of people together to race him, we have just had fun”.
The first of six races commences at 1.45pm with the Print Fresh Maiden Handicap (1010m).
