NEW ENGLAND
Round 7
Tamworth savoured their first win in their debut New England foray with a 26-12 upset win over competition leaders Armidale.
Heart-breakingly close on several previous occasions – including the last time they met the Blues - the Magpies dominated from the opening whistle at Tamworth Rugby Park.
The other game saw Barbarians knock over third-placed St Alberts 25-20.
RUGBY LEAGUE
GROUP 4
Gunnedah rebounded from their first loss of the season, a 42-16 away defeat to North Tamworth last round, to beat a plucky Roos outfit 48-34 in the inaugural Boyde Campbell Cup at Kitchener Park.
Gunnedah centre Reece Jaeger believes that the Bulldogs played to 70 per cent of their ability, and are yet to deliver their A-game this year. They’re not lacking confidence, he said, but were guilty of “dumb” play at stages after moving away from the game plan.
Bulldogs fullback Dylan Lake and centre Aaron Donnelly both bagged doubles.
