Around 750 riders will face a wide range of obstacles from Saturday, with the trails leading around wheat paddocks, through creek beds and over rocky hills.
Less competitors will take part this time, but organiser Jeff Nixon was pleased to avoid overloading the track on a dry year. Dust may be an extra challenge in some areas.
“There’s a lot of tracks to ride on. In areas it’s big and open big sky country, and in others it’s covered in scrubby terrain,” Nixon said.
“A lot of areas we haven’t been able to use for a long time in the creeks have dried out, so we’ve used a lot more of the creek terrain.”
Volunteers have been hard at work this month, marking out trails for dirt bike riders of all ages and abilities.
While areas like the ‘enchanted forest’ will prove difficult for even the most experienced riders, a series of bypasses and several support vehicles make the course accessible for all levels.
“Although they might be slow making in some areas, generally everyone will be able to make it around,” Nixon said.
The 40 and 80 kilometre tracks pass by the fuel stops twice, where food and drinks will be available courtesy of Croppa Creek Preschool. “That means people can leave the club here in the morning and they can ride all day.”
Prices are $150 for adults, $90 for juniors, $30 for pee-wee and $400 for a family.
“We did have a bit of a price rise this year, but that was because over the last three or four years a lot of the prices had gone up, like our insurance costs and everything else,” Nixon said.
“We had a few people commenting on that, but still we’re the cheapest trail ride in NSW.”
