“I broke my record!” he said.

“My record was 92 and I got 88 off the stick.”

In year six at Inverell Public School, Reece travelled to Sydney last week to represent the North West for the second year in a row. 

With 110 children from all over NSW competing, Reece was ranked first in the North West and 15th in the state.

The eagle-eyed youngster paid close attention throughout the competition, picking up several new techniques, and feels he came home a better player. 

He enjoyed “seeing what courses are out there that I want to play when I’m older”.

On his first day, Reece played in a four man ambrose with the North West team, while day two and three were individual 18 hole events. Over three days Reece played 54 holes of golf altogether.

“I was very proud of this achievement and it was a huge improvement on last year. I learnt lots of new skills throughout this experience and have made some great friendships,” Reece said.

“I would like to thank Miss Pettit, my family, teachers at IPS, Inverell Golf Club, Jack Newton Junior Golf, Inverell Ladies Golf, Inverell RSM Club, Liberty Service Station, The Albion Store, Hino, and the Inverell community for their support.”

Playing since he was just four-years-old, Reece has an unwavering passion for golf, and hopes to one day become a professional. He feels he is close to surpassing his Pop on the golf course.

Reece’s next goal is to be accepted into the NIAS Institute of Sport golf program.
