Although the track needs a final hot mix seal before it is officially complete, the club has been testing out different idea for possible future events.
President Andrew Blake said cycle club members participated in team relay events before finishing with an elimination race.
"We had a 'nurse the weakest rider' where they had to get the whole team home. It caters for all levels of ability and fitness. There were a few other team events before the elimination race which is more a velodrome track oriented event." The club hopes to host different events for riders once a fortnight depending on numbers. The next event is set for the first weekend in November.
Once the track is complete, Inverell Cycle Club hope to run events in conjunction with the local triathlon club to boost numbers for both groups.
"We'd also like to run regional events and invite Tamworth and Armidale riders over. Both towns are keen to support us," Blake said.
Inverell Cycle Club has an active Facebook page as well as a Ride Inverell messenger page people can be invited to where bunch rides, road rides and training rides are posted.
Blake said an official opening of the track was in the works, possibly running in conjunction with a regularly run regional series between Inverell, Armidale and Tamworth each March.
"We'll also have some come and try days soon along with some other fun events. Once the final seal goes down, we'll be full steam ahead with all of our ideas. We're ready for some pretty serious racing," he said.
Having access to a storage facility at the track, Inverell Cycle Club hope to build a stock of bikes available for newbies who'd like to try out the sport. The club will keep interested riders up to date with future events and a possible official opening once details are locked in via their Facebook page 'Inverell Cycle Club'.
Blake said new members were always welcome to join no matter the age, fitness level or riding ability.
