RESIDENTS are being urged to dispose of their unwanted and obsolete electronic waste in the annual Whitegoods and E-waste collection next month.

The kerbside collection will be held Sunday, November 22.
Council mayor, Paul Harmon, explained the collection is a joint initiative between Inverell Shire Council and Macintyre Lions Club, which allows residents to have e-waste items collected from their kerbside for free.

"It's a very popular program which helps residents de-clutter and make sure electronic waste is disposed correctly," Cr Harmon said.
"The Lions Club has been supporting this program for many years and provides the volunteer labour for the collection as well as ensuring that the e-waste collected is stripped for parts and recycled where possible."
E-waste includes all electronic items, such as whitegoods, televisions, computers, kitchen appliances and any other items that can be plugged in.
"Close to nine tonnes of waste was collected last year, so we are expecting the best part of 10 tonnes to be collected next month," Cr Harmon said.
The collection extends to all households located in the town limits. Residents wishing to participate must register their address and waste details with the council by calling 6728 8200 before Wednesday, November 18, 4pm.
