Yvette Lewis is riding at the Golden Slipper Day held at the Inverell race tracks on the weekend, and hopes to win her home-town-titled Tingha Cup as a birthday present to herself.
"It'd be nice if I could get a win or two that's for sure," she laughed.
She'll take on the race on the back of Luke Morgan's Folkstone, their first ride together.
"I find Inverell has a really good long straight, and you can lead, or can come from behind," she said.
She isn't the only star rider taking to the tracks, with the shire's favourites Rachel Murray and Zoe-Lee Cruickshank expected to be riding at the meeting.
The Tingha lass was involved in a nasty fall at the start of a race at Tamworth last week, when her mount Anubis reared at the start throwing her high in the air as the horses leaped from the barriers.
She came away uninjured and Anubis continued riderless, causing only minor interference during the race running off the track after the post, landing apprentice Dylan Gibbons a heavy fall.
"I'm not too worried though, that's just racing. It happens, and you just have to move on from it," Lewis stated.
The race was won instead by Cruickshank, riding the Nathaniel Scott-trained Sapphire Step to victory in the $30,000 race.
The Golden Slipper Day has been allocated to the Inverell Jockey Club, after it was transferred from Narrabri.
The meeting will see the "reincarnation" of the Tingha Cup, with Tingha businesses sponsoring and the Tingha Hotel organising a bus for the locals to attend the day.
