Young actors in the Inverell ‘Drama Teens’ troupe will be treading the celebrated boards of Blair Athol Estate in the play Waiting for Gatsby, written and directed by local drama teacher Stephanie Marshall.
The twist to this production is the audience will follow the plot as it unfolds throughout the historic house.
Referencing the F Scott Fitzgerald famed character Jay Gatsby and the famous Samuel Beckett play Waiting for Godot, the period comedy sees the cast waiting for their host, Gatsby, who is yet to arrive.
“We would like our audience to get into the spirit of it if they would be so kind. The music is 1920s jazz, you’ll find a couple of antique cars in the driveway,” Stephanie said. The students from schools around town have been investing a great deal of time into getting the script just right.
“We’ve been a long time in rehearsal.
“I’m going to say something like 13 weeks,” she said.
“They’re pumped,” she chuckled. “They’re so excited, you have no idea.”
Waiting for Gatsby runs this Friday, August 1 and Saturday August 2.
Forty tickets per night are available, and the cost is $30 per person, available at the Inverell Tourism Centre. The price includes the show, live music, food and a complementary drink. There is also an open bar on the night.
