A MAN is believed to be fighting for life in Tamworth hospital after he was bitten by what is suspected to be a brown snake.

The man aged in his 70s was bitten by the venomous snake on Friday morning in Warialda.
It's believed he presented to Warialda hospital in Long Street about 11.30am where emergency staff scrambled to treat him.

Because of the man's deteriorating condition, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth to Warialda hospital.
The chopper's critical care medical team assessed the patient and airlifted the man back to Tamworth hospital for specialist treatment.
The man was in a serious condition at the time, a spokesperson for the helicopter said.
Emergency services have been told the man was bitten by a brown snake on Friday morning.
